Styleshake.com is a brilliantly novel idea where you can design a little number in a matter of minutes, before having it sent to you in a pretty cloth bag, ready for you to wow your friends with.

If you’re looking for something a little unique and different to what’s available in the shops, or fancy trying your hand at dress designing without all the hard graft, then we recommend you take a good look at Style Shake. Bag a little number from here and you can be sure no one else will be wearing the same outfit as you at the Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties, plus you get the chance to flex your creative mitts. Just imagine when someone next asks you where you got your outfit from, you can say you designed it yourself.

Dropping into this boutique little site is like popping to your local tailor and suggesting they whip up a little something just for you. First, you choose the colour of the dress you want, along with the fabric. Then you choose from an assortment of necklines, upper bodices, sleeves, waist panels, lower bodices and even trimmings to create the finished product.

The site is cleverly designed and once you’re in there designing new dresses, it becomes a bit addictive. I created six new dresses before I could force myself to leave. And should you be stuck for inspiration, there are more than 4,000 designs by fellow Style Shake fans to help give you some ideas.

Style Shake founder and CEO Iris Ben-David says: “We all love fashion and having it our own way. We also know that different women have different needs, preferences and passions. That’s why we started Style Shake – an online fashion studio which allows visitors to create their own individual and inspiring designs, share them with our creative community and wear them.

“We wanted to create a site for people who love individuality. And if when you receive your dress, you need to make any alterations, we will do that for free. We’re just like your neighbourhood tailor, we’ll make it perfect.”

 

Style Shake uses ethical fabrics, some of which are organic where possible. “Our organic silk is made and dyed by hand, from companies that also provide fabrics to couture houses,” says Iris.

I designed and ordered myself a silver babydoll dress from the site and it really is quite exciting to receive something you’ve helped to create yourself in the post. (It’s also somehow rather touching, because you know that people have been working behind the scenes to create something unique to you. And I must say, I’m rather looking forward to showing it off.)
